Turbinate reduction targets the structures inside the nose that filter and humidify the air. Sinus surgery treats chronic sinusitis or sinus polyps, improving drainage and relieving symptoms. Septoplasty
Septoplasty is a surgical procedure used to correct a deviated septum. The septum is the internal wall of cartilage and bone that separates the two nostrils of the nose. When the septum deviates too far, it can cause difficulty breathing, snoring, and other complications. A septoplasty will typically be executed using either general or local anesthesia. It involves making an incision in the nostril to access the deviated septum and then removing or reshaping the tissue to correct its alignment. In some cases, rhinoplasty or turbinectomy will be done at the time of this procedure.
Turbinate reduction
Turbinate reduction is a surgical procedure involving reducing or shrinking the size of one or more nasal turbinates (small ridges in the nasal cavity). Turbinectomy can help reduce congestion as well as improve airflow through the nose. This procedure may be recommended for people who suffer from chronic sinusitis or have enlarged turbinates due to allergies or other causes. During this procedure, an endoscope (a thin instrument) is used to access and remove parts of the turbinates safely and effectively.
Sinus surgery
Sinus surgery is sometimes necessary for those suffering from sinus infections and other sinus-related problems. During this type of surgery, small openings are made in different areas of the face where fluid has become blocked from draining correctly from one’s sinuses. The most common surgeries are endoscopic sinus surgery and Caldwell-Luc antrostomy (opening up blocked passages).
